About the Founder
Graeme Sibirsky
Graeme M. Sibirsky has worked in NYC DOE schools in Districts 13, 15 & 18, at PS 29 (Cobble Hill), PS 287 (Ft. Greene), PS 276 (Canarsie) and Academy of Arts & Letters (Ft. Greene), mostly as a Music and Technology (STEM) Teacher; Tech Coordinator (SPOC), Curriculum and Grant Writer. He has a BA in Education, a dual MS in Education & Special Education, an Advanced Certificate in School Leadership & Technology (NYiT) and is certified as a Grades preK – 6 Teacher, K – 12 Educational Technology Specialist (ETS) and has an NYC Principal’s License and certification.
Currently employed as Music and Technology (STEM) teacher and Tech Coordinator at Academy of Arts & Letters (Bklyn), Graeme got his start teaching music at a young age, through his parents Park Slope music school, Slope Music. Following in his parents’ footsteps he pursued a career in the field of education, while developing his crafts as a musician, writer, producer, MC and DJ.
Graeme’s passion for education led him to form STAIRS ACADEMY Nonprofit in 2017, after forming a core team of like-minded educators, to pursue the opening of an elementary school in Brooklyn. After being advised to go the Charter route, Graeme and his team received training on the Charter proposal process, from NYC Charter School Center and created a Charter School LOI and full proposal.
STAIRS has since developed to include several divisions covering traditional public school design, after-school extended-day programming, college internship programs, community workshops and educational content created for television and online media.
About STAIRS ACADEMY
What is your next step?
STAIRS ACADEMY is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to increase access to quality educational programs, centered around Culture, Literacy, Arts, Technology and Health. STAIRS ACADEMY is currently proposing a public charter elementary school and an NYCDOE traditional public school design, through Imagine NYC Schools, an initiative to empower students and communities to play an active, central role in creating the future of education.
STAIRS ACADEMY holds educational workshops for children and adults, mentors college students in our STAIRS Internship Program and develops educational content for our STAIRS ACADEMY and CYBERSKY video channels.
In addition, STAIRS ACADEMY is currently in development of an innovative new extended-day program which will be available to all schools in the near future.
